Thursday, November 7, 1991 was a day like no other in the athletic world especially. Arguably the most talented and skilled player of NBA history made the most unexpected announcement… He was HIV positive. With the virus still in the infancy stages of what exactly this virus could do made it even more difficult for all to hear. To this day this has been the most shocking and heartfelt announcement in sports history. Magic Johnson didn’t get depressed but instead used that same focus and determination to educate others on the disease and most importantly find a cure! Magic is still going strong as a wonderful business made, hall of famer, husband and father.

I have personally seen this documentary three times and I encourage everyone to share this video. All individuals that are infected or affected by HIV/AIDS need to be educated and encouraged. The stigmas associated with HIV/AIDs were broken when Magic made his announcement. For the first time people realized this virus was truly no respecter of persons. All the money, fame, or physical health could not keep you from being infected.

One of the greatest parts of this documentary is that it grasps the raw emotions of everyone directly connected with Magic, from his wife Cookie to Coach Pat Riley. For the first time the world can see how AIDS really does affect an entire people.
